QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Occupational Therapy License from both the professional board and the Ohio Department of Education
- Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks
- Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
- Experience with children with disabilities preferred
- Valid Ohio driver’s license
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The role of the Occupational Therapist is to identify and evaluate children to determine eligibility for occupational therapy and to provide services directly and/or through supervision of OT Assistant(s).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The below list is not ranked in order of importance.)
- Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
- Evaluate and re-evaluate students to determine eligibility to receive OT services
- Assist in the development of the individualized education program
- Provide the occupational therapy (directly and/or through supervision of OT Assistant) to assist student in accessing their special education needs
- Serve as a consultant to the classroom teachers in the cooperative MD and early education (preschool) programs
- Provide counseling and guidance to parents and teachers regarding occupational therapy disabilities
- Maintain records as required by MVESC and local district policies; maintain professional ethics
- Fulfill the same time schedules as all teachers in assigned buildings (sites)
- Requisition materials and supplies from the Director of Student Services for distribution to student(s)
- Keep parents informed through parent conferences and written reports
- Stay current on methods of instruction as they relate to occupational therapy
- Implement behavior modification techniques as outlined in student behavior plan
- Cooperate with other classroom teachers in the sharing of students
- Give positive reinforcement for acceptable academic and social behavior; provide motivation to students who have a short attention span
- Provide supervision of OTAs in the delivery of appropriate OT services
- Keep attendance records and all other records pertinent to the occupational therapy program
- Attend county, district, and faculty meetings (seminars, conferences, workshops, etc.) as adopted in the ESC’s policies and procedures
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform such other duties as the superintendent (special education supervisors/director of early education) may assign/determine
- Observe Risk Reduction Safety Rules & Regulations of the MVESC and school districts, state, federal OSHA laws and will be evaluated to the extent of compliance and implementation as an employee on such rules and regulations for safety in the workplace while visiting such sites in line of work duties
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable:
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Typical school technology as well as assistive technology (e.g., communication devices, etc.)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Dates of the work period will be stated in the employment contract
PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:
The Occupational Therapist will be evaluated by the Superintendent or his or her designee in accordance with the procedures identified by law and including the standards established by the organization. The employee will be given a copy of the evaluation instrument and standards in advance and he or she will be expected to conduct a self-evaluation and establish a minimum of one goal annually to advance knowledge, skill and/or ability in a job related area.
