QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. Valid Ohio Educational Aide Permit.
  3. Meet NCLB requirements for paraprofessional status.
  4. Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks.
  5. Certification classes or modules focusing on transition.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

A job coach is an employee who assists and supports post-secondary students with disabilities to learn and accurately perform job duties. A job coach provides one on one training tailored to meet the needs of the student.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The below list is not ranked in order of importance.)

  1. Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials and facilities
  2. Assess the strengths of the student and teach them how to use them effectively
  3. Assist students in developing social and life skills
  4. Develop effective job coaching and employment plans
  5. Demonstrate the ability of being a positive role model within the context of written policies of the agency
  6. Perform duties in a manner that demonstrates the ability to separate personal issues from one's employment responsibilities
  7. Demonstrate skills necessary to work as an effective team member, such as basic communication skills, understanding of roles, listening strategies with students and staff and ways to deal with conflict
  8. Demonstrate sensitivity to the beliefs, traditions, and values across cultures and how these impact relationships between children, families, and schooling
  9. Effectively demonstrate knowledge about the laws protecting the rights of students and parents and how it relates to written plans and to their role as a job coach
  10. Safely transport students to and from the job site location
  11. Demonstrate an awareness of a student's disability (needs) and the impact the disability can have on learning and achievement
  12. Effectively communicate and implement best practices in identifying learning styles, establishing rules and procedures and maintaining rapport with students
  13. Demonstrate the ability to implement strategies that promote student independence in various settings
  14. Collaborate with the educational team on meeting student needs
  15. Supervise and monitor students in all settings
  16. Demonstrate an awareness of the primary factors that influence student behavior
  17. Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and problem-solving ability
  18. Effectively inspire and motivate
  19. Has an understanding and can demonstrate a variety of strategies that reinforces positive behavior
  20. Promote good public relations within the work setting (e.g., personal appearance, positive attitude and conversation)
  21. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center
  22. Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  23. Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Participate in crisis management training as arranged and assumes responsibility for periodic updates
  2. Participate in departmental meetings and professional development opportunities as requested by LEA Special Education Coordinator or Regional Site Manager
  3. Perform all other duties as required or requested by the Superintendent or designee

 

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Typical school and classroom setting and could include community-based activities for students who may have severe and/or multiple disabilities
  2. The employee is determined to be at Category 1 regarding exposure to bodily fluids including blood, human tissue, or bodily fluids and must make "universal precautions" a standard operating procedure.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Basic knowledge of board policies and procedures; a working knowledge of individual educational plans, community-based teaching techniques and strategies, the concept of least restrictive environment; a thorough knowledge of the importance of confidentiality, prevention techniques, organizing instructional materials and operating classroom equipment.

 

SKILLS IN:

VB/C#.NET, Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft SQL Server 2016 database administration and development, database use/management, managing database security protocols, user interface design and development, technical writing, planning and organization, effective communication, and

troubleshooting techniques.

 

ABILITY TO:

  1. Communicate orally, in writing, and by phone with coworkers and customers
  2. Conduct activities and projects with minimal direct supervision
  3. Work collaboratively with fellow employees of the MVESC
  4. Interpret board policies and procedures

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Typical school technology as well as assistive technology (e.g., communication devices, etc.)

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Dates of the work period will be stated in the employment contract.

 

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

The Job Coach will be evaluated by the teacher/supervisor or his or her designee in accordance with the procedures identified by law and including the standards established by the organization. The employee will be given a copy of the evaluation instrument and standards in advance and he or she will be expected to conduct a self-evaluation and establish a minimum of one goal annually to advance knowledge, skill and/or ability in a job-related area.
