QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree and appropriate Ohio licensure
  2. Knowledge of mental health diagnostic criteria and appropriate interventions
  3. Knowledge of group/individual counseling theories and appropriate use of such with children and families
  4. One to two years related experience preferred
  5. Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

Work with assigned student in all aspects of their situation; investigate report or abuse/neglect/exploitation, etc.; serve as liaison between courts and school; maintain necessary case records; prepare/compile social histories, intake data, and court document and referrals

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (The below list is not ranked in order of importance.)

  1. Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  2. Evaluate the students using sound techniques and accepted practices
  3. Effectively manage the case work, monitoring individual student behavior to maintain a good learning environment
  4. Prepare clear and timely reports
  5. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required
  6. Provide guidance and counsel to the students which will promote their welfare and their proper educational development
  7. Attend parent/teacher conferences
  8. Counsel with colleagues, students and parents
  9. Attend educational field trips
  10. Write required report as caseworker
  11. Establish and maintain working relationship with community agencies
  12. Ensure continuity of services and community involvement
  13. Maintain and improve professional competence
  14. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents
  15. Observe ethics of the social workers profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgment
  16. Assist in completing agency forms as necessary
  17. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required
  18. Refer students suspected of learning disabilities for diagnosis on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of districts specialists as required
  19. Assist the administration in implementing all procedures and rules governing student life and conduct
  20. Provide information and referrals
  21. Notify parents if student is not meeting goals
  22. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  23. Determine eligibility for services
  24. Encourage and motivate students to stay in school and complete their high school education
  25. Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy
  26. Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., family history, court documents, medical information, etc.
  27. Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  28. Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
  29. Attend conference and workshops as required
  30. Compile records based on federal and state standards
  31. Ensure continuity of services and community involvement
  32. Make provisions for being available to students and parents
  33. Act as a facilitator and information source in subject area specialty
  34. Participate on building “teams” when required and agreed upon
  35. Refer attendance, health, and psychological emotional problems to principal and/or guidance counselor
  36. Interact with superintendent and/or board of education and present information as requested
  37. Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
  38. Schedule student and/or family conferences
  39. Follow all Governing Board procedures, rules and policies
  40. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.
  41. Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  42. Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
  2. Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
  3. Serve on committees and co-curricular activities as agreed upon
  4. Attend professional growth seminars, workshops, etc., to keep current on relevant issues
  5. Counsel, advise, encourage and motivate students
  6. Interact with other departments and school personnel when necessary
  7. Interact with public in official capacity when required
  8. Serve on curriculum committees when requested
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by Superintendent

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
  2. Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather conditions
  3. Occasional interaction among unruly children
  4. Occasional requirement to travel
  5. Occasional evening/weekend/summer work
  6. Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch, crouch, kneel, and stoop
  7. Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and pull up to a maximum of 35 lbs.
  8. Occasional requirement to climb, balance, reach, stretch, crouch, kneel and stoop

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

 

The Social Worker will be evaluated by the building principal or his or her designee in accordance with the procedures identified by law and including the standards established by the organization. The employee will be given a copy of the evaluation instrument and standards in advance and he or she will be expected to conduct a self-evaluation and establish a minimum of one goal annually to advance knowledge, skill and/or ability in a job related area.
