QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  2. Valid Ohio Department of Education licensure/credentials
  3. Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

Provides appropriate academic instructional activities and related activities to meet the needs of assigned students, designs and implements lessons based on student need and program requirements; maintains confidentiality, completes required reports in a timely manner; attends required staff development/meetings, and provides a positive and safe environment conducive to learning using developmentally appropriate practices

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS(The below list is not ranked in order of importance.)

  1. Ensures safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  2. Provides instruction to students demonstrating a knowledge of behavior management and motivational skills
  3. Reflects the annual goals and short term goals in the daily lesson plans and monthly activity plans
  4. Establishes a system of documentation/information collection to verify implementation of student progress toward goals and objectives relating to academic and behavior goals
  5. Responsible for the development and implementation of weekly lesson plans based on student needs
  6. Assists other school staff in implementing appropriate functional curriculum, instruction, and behavior management strategies
  7. Conducts parent meetings to develop and share information pertaining to student progress
  8. Completes written reports as assigned by the administration in an accurate and timely manner
  9. Demonstrates skill in prevention, redirection and crisis management
  10. Delegates and supervises the paraprofessional(s) assigned to his or her classroom
  11. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance
  12. Maintains required license(s)
  13. Maintains respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., IEPs, medical records, court decisions, etc.
  14. Observes ethics of the teaching profession, exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgment
  15. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.
  16. Serves as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  17. Helps instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Participates in meetings and professional development training as deemed appropriate
  1. Performs all other duties as required or requested by the Superintendent

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Typical school and classroom setting
  2. Ability to lift, carry, push and pull various items up to a maximum of 20 pounds
  3. Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb and stoop

KNOWLEDGE OF:

 

Basic knowledge of board policies and procedures; thorough knowledge of teaching techniques and strategies, lesson planning, local, state, and federal laws, rules and regulations, the concept of least restrictive environment, and functional academic/community-based courses of study

 

SKILLS IN:

 

Written composition and technical writing, record keeping, planning and organization, student performance evaluation, diagnostic/prescriptive teaching, classroom management, and public speaking

 

ABILITY TO:

 

Ability to teach, including the organization of the learning environment; demonstrates ability in constructing options and planning environments; analyzes curriculum; mobilizes resources and uses a variety of educational techniques; develops lesson plans; has a working knowledge of rules and regulations; develops rapport with students, parents, primary care takers, paraprofessionals and co-workers; prepares reports; maintains records; communicates effectively. Has the ability to maintain good physical and mental health and practices positive stress management techniques

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

 

Typical school technology as well as assistive technology (e.g., communication devices, etc.)

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Dates of the work period will be stated in the employment contract

 

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

 

The Teacher will be evaluated by his/her supervisor/principal/superintendent or his or her designee in accordance with the procedures identified by law and including the standards established by the organization. The Teacher will be given a copy of the evaluation instrument and standards in advance and he or she will be expected to conduct a self-evaluation and establish a minimum of one goal annually to advance knowledge, skill and/or ability in a job related area.
