QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
- One year teaching experience preferred
- Valid Ohio Early Childhood Education License
- Valid Ohio driver’s license
- Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks and medical examination requirement upon employment
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, constructs and implements, with assistance from the Itinerant Teacher, individual education plans for early childhood students including students with disabilities, conducts required assessments and screenings to document student progress toward goals and objectives; participates in parent conference to share information pertaining to student progress, and provides support to the general education staff

- Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
- Experience with interagency collaboration

- Ability to function with various community agencies, programs and professionals
- Ability to communicate with children, parents, staff and community members and remain courteous and professional with children, parents, and staff
- A sincere commitment to the philosophy of the Early Childhood Department and to the objectives of an early childhood intervention program
- Responsible for meeting and maintaining all requirements for (1) Ohio Department of Education licensing and (2) the Early Childhood Guidelines
- Encourage, stimulate and develop parent involvement in the centers through parent center committees and special meetings and activities as deemed appropriate for the endeavor
- With assistance from the Itinerant Teacher, plan an individualized program for each child including goals for IEP’s, if applicable, and complete screenings and reporting in a timely manner
- Plan and conduct instructional activities and experiences in the early childhood classroom connected to early childhood standards
- Conduct home visits and parent teacher conferences as required by the program guidelines
- Maintain and be responsible for all center equipment, its use, maintenance, inventory, cleanliness and storage
- Directly supervise the following center personnel: early childhood paraprofessionals, assuring that conferences, evaluations and duties are performed as required by the personnel policies and procedures, job descriptions and other relevant material
- Participate in the revision of the written program plans and support materials annually in consultation with community representatives, and other staff as requested by coordinator and/or director
- Attend all building/district staff meetings and other applicable events. Work cooperatively with the principal, teaching staff, and cook/custodian to maintain a positive relationship between the school district and MVESC
- Prepare monthly reports timely and accurately (attendance, in-kind Volunteer Services sheet)
- Report progress of program to Program Coordinator or Director
- Follow and enforce all safety regulations
- Be responsible for the direct supervision of the children assigned to the class at all times
- Involve the parent in the education, healthcare, nutrition and general development of their child
- Follow building emergency drills, or if off-site from elementary building, conduct monthly fire and tornado drills
- Maintain current and accurate information in centers licensing notebook
- Work cooperatively with itinerant teachers, therapists and other team members for the purpose of meeting the families’ identified needs
- Assume responsibility for recruiting, encouraging, training, assigning and scheduling parent volunteers
- Assume responsibility for conducting parent meetings/conferences
- Respect the confidentiality of children, families and staff
- Adhere to dress code policy of the MVESC, elementary building, even if off-site program
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Early Childhood Coordinator and Director
- Read and adhere to all policies and procedures set forth in the MVESC Policies and Procedures Manual available online at the MVESC website
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.
- Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
- Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Staff members: 10 hours of inservice training is required annually in the one or more of the following areas, such as child development/early childhood education, child abuse recognition and prevention, first-aid and communicable diseases.
- Completes all ODE training requirements as per license and/or program guidelines
- Participates in early childhood departmental meetings and in-service training as deemed appropriate.
- Performs all other duties as required or requested by the Superintendent

Typical school and classroom setting with students who may have severe and/or multiple impairments
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Basic knowledge of board policies and procedures; thorough knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice, individual educational plans, play-based teaching techniques and strategies, lesson planning, local state and federal laws, rules and regulations regarding early childhood and early childhood special education, the concept of least
restrictive environment, and developmentally appropriate courses of study
SKILLS IN:
Written composition and technical writing, record keeping, planning and organization, student performance evaluation, diagnostic/prescriptive teaching, classroom management, and public speaking
ABILITY TO:
Ability to develop individual educational plans; teach, including the organization of the learning environment; demonstrates ability in constructing options and planning environments; analyze curriculum; mobilize resources and use a variety of educational techniques; develop lesson plans; develop rapport with students, parents, primary care givers and co-workers; prepare reports; maintain records; and communicate effectively. Ability to design a sequential program leading to independence as an adult with objectives that encompass one or more occupational skills. Have the ability to maintain good physical and mental health and practice positive stress management techniques
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Typical school technology as well as assistive technology (e.g., communication devices, etc.)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:
The Early Childhood Education Teacher will be evaluated by the Early Childhood Coordinator or his or her designee in accordance with the procedures identified by law and including the standards established by the organization. The employee will be given a copy of the evaluation instrument and standards in advance and he or she will be expected to conduct a self-evaluation and establish a minimum of one goal annually to advance knowledge, skill and/or ability in a job-related area.
