QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's Degree with major study in speech pathology and audiology
  2. Valid Ohio pupil services speech language pathologist license
  3. Experience with early childhood children and school-age children preferred
  4. Valid Ohio driver's license or have transportation to off-site job related functions
  5. Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

Under general supervision, constructs and implements individual education plans for students with speech and/or language disorders, conducts evaluations required to determine eligibility for services and to document student progress toward goals and objectives; participates in parent conferences to share information pertaining to student progress; and provides support to the staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS(The below list is not ranked in order of importance.)

  1. Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  2. Provide direct, indirect and consultative speech services to students with a documented deficit in the communication area
  3. Assist in the evaluation process of students with suspected speech, hearing and language delays and/or in the reevaluation of assigned students
  4. Prepare and implement individual educational plans containing present levels of performance, annual goals including short term objectives, a statement of the specific educational service, the projected date of initiation and anticipated duration of such services, and the appropriate objective criteria and evaluation procedures
  5. Write lesson plans that reflect the content of the annual goals and short term objectives of the IEP and encompass skills that will lead to independence as an adult
  6. Establish and maintain a daily system of documentation/information collection to verify implementation of individual student progress toward goals and objectives relating to language, articulation, fluency and/or voice
  7. Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for speech/language improvement and listening activities
  8. Provide information, support and counseling to parents and families regarding speech, hearing and language development
  9. Communicate and cooperate with the classroom instructional and administrative staff on an ongoing basis
  10. Travel to program sites and/or homes of students to provide instruction or assessment activities
  11. Assist in the proper referral of individuals and communicate as appropriate to agencies and specialists within the community
  12. Complete written reports as assigned by the administration in an accurate and timely manner
  13. Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance
  14. Maintain required license(s)
  15. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.
  16. Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  17. Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Initially complete 6 hours of training in First Aid, Communicable Disease, and Prevention of Child Abuse and assume responsibility for periodic updates
  2. Participate in in-service training and professional development
  3. Perform all other duties as required or requested by the superintendent

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Typical school/classroom setting with students who may have severe and/or multiple impairments
  2. The loading and unloading of supplies, materials, and equipment for off-site projects is required.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

 

Basic knowledge of board policies and procedures; thorough knowledge of individual educational plans, teaching techniques and strategies, local state and federal laws, rules and regulations regarding special education, and the concept of least restrictive environment

 

SKILLS IN:

 

Written composition and technical writing, record keeping, planning and organization, student performance evaluation, diagnostic/prescriptive teaching, classroom management, classroom management, and public speaking

 

ABILITY TO:

 

Ability to develop individual educational plans and collaborate with others to implement services; teach, including the organization of the learning environment; analyze curriculum; mobilize resources and use a variety of educational techniques; have a working knowledge of special education laws, rules and regulations; develop rapport with students, parents, primary care takers and co-workers; prepare reports; maintain records; and communicate effectively. Ability to design a sequential program of language skills leading to independence as an adult with objectives that encompass one or more occupational skills

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

 

Typical school technology as well as assistive technology (e.g., communication devices, etc.)

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Dates of the work period will be stated in the employment contract

 

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

 

The Speech/Language Pathologist will be evaluated by the Director of Student Services or the Director of Early Childhood Programs or their designee in accordance with the procedures identified by law and including the standards established by the organization. The Speech/Language Pathologist will be given a copy of the evaluation instrument and standards in advance and he or she will be expected to conduct a self-evaluation and establish a minimum of one goal annually to advance knowledge, skill and/or ability in a job related area.
