QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid Physical Therapy License from both the professional board and the Ohio Department of Education
  2. Successful completion of BCI/FBI background checks
  3. Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies
  4. Training and/or experience in behavioral management techniques is preferred
  5. This assignment may require a valid driver’s license and access/availability of a reliable vehicle

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

 

Provides therapeutic interventions to help students identified as having a disability achieve maximum benefit from the

educational program.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (The below list is not ranked in order of importance.)

  1. Ensure safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities
  2. Work under a physician’s prescription and consults with him/her as needed
  3. Perform evaluations and provides all written documentation for multi-factored evaluations and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Evaluate the needs of students based on all available information
  4. Work with staff to implement IEPs for identified students
  5. Develop a therapy schedule. Comply with state model policies and procedures for the education of students identified as having a disability. Work with staff to ensure that services are provided in the least restrictive educational environment
  6. Uphold board policies and follows administrative guidelines and procedures
  7. Promote a favorable image of the service center. Encourage community/school partnerships that enhance the service center’s operational effectiveness
  8. Requisition program supplies, set up equipment. Promote the proper use and care of school property. Oversee the cleaning, repair, and replacement of therapy equipment. Ensure that supplies and equipment are stored properly.
  9. Follow safety precautions when using therapeutic techniques and treatments
  10. Exercise students to increase strength, dexterity, coordination, and endurance skills. Lift, transfer, and position students. Help students improve mobility, restore function, diminish or relieve pain, and limit permanent physical disabilities.  Instruct students, staff, and families in exercises and/or activity regimens and transferring
  11. Devise or adapts equipment and fabricates splints to facilitate therapy outcomes
  12. Provide instructions in the use and care of assistive and/or augmentative devices
  13. Implement effective pupil management procedures. Maintain high standards and upholds the student conduct code.
  14. Collaborate with staff to implement behavior improvement plans. Counsel students to acknowledge and manage responsible personal conduct. Chart behavior as required.
  15. Develop and maintain a positive learning environment. Help parents and students understand therapy goals and how they relate to the educational program
  16. Provide guidance, communicate high expectations, and show an active interest in student progress. Facilitate critical-thinking, problem-solving and creativity skills
  17. Collaborate with staff. Share knowledge and resources that enhance student learning
  18. Help students take full advantage of the learning environment or adapt the setting to meet student needs (e.g., access and proximity to activities, use of adaptive equipment, etc.)
  19. Document therapy progress. Submit reports on time
  20. Respect personal privacy. Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information
  21. Consult with parents as needed (e.g., telephone calls, messages, meetings, etc.)
  22. Use support personnel to address student concerns (e.g., excessive absences, at-risk behavior, mental/physical health, family/peer relations, etc.)
  23. Take precautions to ensure staff/student safety. Do not leave students unsupervised
  24. Watch for behavior that may indicate a problem. Work with staff to eliminate unacceptable behavior
  25. Report evidence of suspected child abuse and neglect as required by law
  26. Support a full range of educational options. Help staff resolve problems related to the participation of students with disabilities in appropriate peer group activities
  27. Work with community services associated with students’ programs (e.g., court systems, law enforcement, health care facilities, child welfare services, etc.)
  28. Schedule home visits when appropriate to support therapy goals. Provide families with information about proper techniques to assist with therapy exercises at home when appropriate
  29. Closely monitors student use of therapy equipment. Follow standard sanitation procedures to maintain a clean program environment
  30. Prepare an end-of-year report and recommendations for students as directed
  31. Participate in parent conferences, open houses, and other required events when appropriate
  32. Support parent organizations and encourages student activities as time permits
  33. Participate in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities
  34. Accept personal responsibility for decisions and conduct
  35. Wear appropriate work attire and maintains a professional demeanor
  36. Strive to develop rapport and serves as a positive role model for others
  37. Perform other specific job-related duties as directed
  38. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment at the Center.
  39. Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  40. Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values

  1. Duties may require bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing
  2. Duties may require transferring and lifting students
  3. Duties may require lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment
  4. Duties may require operating and/or riding in a vehicle
  5. Duties may require traveling to meetings and work assignments
  6. Duties may require working in proximity to moving mechanical parts
  7. Duties may require using a computer keyboard and monitor
  8. Duties may require wearing protective clothing and using safety equipment
  9. Duties may require working extended hours
  10. Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines
  11. Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes
  12. Potential for exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, and odors
  13. Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases
  14. Potential for interaction with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILIES:

 

Under the direction of the director of special education and superintendent, plans work assignments, provides instructions,

And monitors assigned staff and volunteers. Promotes teamwork and helps staff as needed to successfully accomplish

delegated duties.          

 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

 

Typical school technology as well as assistive technology (e.g., communication devices, etc.)

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

Dates of the work period will be stated in the employment contract

 

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

                                

The Physical Therapist will be evaluated by the Superintendent or his or her designee in accordance with the procedures identified by law and including the standards established by the organization. The Physical Therapist will be given a copy of the evaluation instrument and standards in advance and he or she will be expected to conduct a self-evaluation and establish a minimum of one goal annually to advance knowledge, skill and/or ability in a job related area.
